A few longer gaps on SW facing aspects, but otherwise the road was easily skinnable. Located just southwest of Sisters, Cold Springs Campground is nestled below a thick Ponderosa Pine forest mixed with birches in the wet areas. On a clear night, the views, sunset, and stars are simply not to be missed.

Sunday, the road was open to just shy of the Morrison Campground.

When I arrived at Cold Springs campground, I was greeted by a REALLY nasty wind. Adams Fork Campground is not operated by Hipcamp and can only be booked externally. This wind blew my tent around all night, and I probably didn’t get as much sleep as I should have. Info for Washington.

It's 2.1 miles to a fork, take the left road for 1.2 miles to Cold Springs Campground entrance. This is a great option for the whole family.

Cool Springs Campground is on the eastern shore of Butt Valley Reservoir (also known as Butt Lake), 6⅓ miles southwest of Lake Almanor and 2⅓ miles south of Ponderosa Flat Campground. The lake is popular for camping, quiet boating (electric motors or canoeing), and hiking and biking on a trail half way around the lake.

Horseshoe Lake Campground is situated on the northeast end of the lake, in the east side of the popular Midway High Lakes Area below Mount Adams’ northwest flank.

The Mount Adams Wilderness, located in southwest Washington State, surrounds the western slopes of the 12,276' tall Mount Adams, the second tallest mountain in the state and the third highest mountain in the Cascade Range. Butt Valley Reservoir is known as an excellent fishing lake as well as a haven for non-motorized boats such as kayaks, canoes, and sailboats.

The wind was still blowing hard when I woke up, and I had SERIOUS second thoughts about the climb.

Surrounding its slopes is a cornucopia of natural beauty. Mount Adams, known by some Native American tribes as Pahto or Klickitat, is a potentially active stratovolcano in the Cascade Range.
